The concept of fire resistance goes beyond that of non-combustibility.

It refers to the capacity of a material or construction to withstand fire

          or give protection from it.

Researchers, scientists and testing laboratories found that cellulose

insulated walls are 46 - 77 % more fire resistant than non-insulated walls.

This is because cellulose insulation does not melt as fiberglass does

when the temperature reaches above 350 degrees. Instead, the cellulose

insulation's dense structure and fire retardants slow the spread by

blocking the flames and hot gases.

Simply put, the fire resistance cellulose insulation provides means people

have more time to reach safety in the event of fire.

AFT cellulose insulation can be used to increase the fire resistance

rating of walls as a fire stop and a fire block. (read links to right)

          Fire Retardant

AFT insulation is rated as a Class 1 building material when tested in

accordance with ASTM E84. The fire retardants inhibit the spread of fire

while fiberglass and foam melt under the same conditions and creates

open spaces for flame and smoke to travel.

Since all structures contain large amounts of wood - making them

susceptible to fire - we set out to develop the best fire safety features

for our cellulose insulation so that every aspect of our product can truly be

          considered superior.

During the manufacturing process, insulation pieces are treated with

specially engineered and highly effective fire retardant chemicals. The final

result is that our cellulose insulation provides 15 minutes of burn resistance

          to 2x4 wood framed walls.
